Frederick A. Hartman, DMD
Dr. Frederick A. Hartman is an innovative oral and maxillofacial surgeon who is board certified and honored to be a part of the Rhode Island medical and dental communities. His patient and affable demeanor, outstanding clinical training, and passion for delivering only the highest quality patient care have made him a welcome addition to surgical practice in Southern New England.
Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, Dr. Hartman is a graduate of the University of Florida. Fred completed his dental training at the University of Pennsylvania in 2001, going on to complete his oral and maxillofacial surgery training in 2005 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Hartman was selected as the chief resident for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2005. Fred then went on to serve as a faculty member at the Washington Hospital Center and maintained a private practice in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Hartman practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery and lectures nationally and internationally on implant dentistry and the surgical management of complex medical patients. He is voted year after year by his peers as one of the areas top Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons. Specific clinical interests include dental implants, minimally invasive surgical techniques, adult and pediatric anesthesia and reconstructive maxillofacial surgery. He is guided by a simple philosophy that clear communication with both patients and referring doctors leads to the best outcomes.
Fred was appointed to the Brown University Department of Surgery faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery and also serves on the medical staff at Rhode Island Hospital, the Miriam, and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. He covers call at Rhode Island and Hasbro hospitals where he participates in Brown University resident training in complex facial trauma and head and neck infections. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Additionally, Dr. Hartman holds Diplomat status with the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, is a member of the American Dental Association, the Rhode Island Dental Association, the Rhode Island Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He served as President of the Rhode Island Dental Association and is an Executive Board member of the Rhode Island Associations of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well as a member of the RIDA COVID-19 task force and previously served as it’s Scientific Chairperson. Fred has also served as the President of the Northern Rhode Island Dental Society and was elected by his peers to the Pierre Fauchard Academy and International College of Dentists and volunteers his time with Donated Dental Services. Dr. Hartman helped start and served as a board member of the Rhode Island Oral Health Foundation and as their director of Oral Surgery for the Rhode Island Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic.
Outside of the office, Fred enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. His other passions include surfing, fishing, ice climbing, triathlons and volunteer work including international medical mission trips to perform cleft lip and palate surgeries.
